During my recent visit to Chiatura, I stopped at one of the city’s scenic viewing platforms — and it turned out to be one of the best places to overlook the entire town from above.
Chiatura is already a fascinating destination on its own. Built into a deep river valley and surrounded by steep cliffs, the city is famous for its Soviet-era cable cars, industrial atmosphere, and dramatic landscape. From the viewing platform, all of this comes together in a single panoramic scene.
Standing there, you can clearly see the contrast between nature and industry: old apartment blocks climbing the hillsides, mining infrastructure, the winding river below, and the iconic cable cars crossing the valley. Especially during golden hour, the light creates excellent conditions for photography and drone filming.
I was particularly happy to fly my drone around the area and capture some HDR pictures from above. The terrain around Chiatura makes it a fantastic location for aerial photography. The combination of cliffs, bridges, cable cars, and dense urban layers gives plenty of opportunities for cinematic drone shots.

The viewing area itself is easy to access and worth a short stop even if you are just passing through the region. It’s quiet, offers fresh air, and provides one of the best angles for understanding how unusual Chiatura’s layout really is.
If you are around in Chiatura, this is definitely a nice place to visit — especially if you enjoy photography, drones, urban exploration, or simply beautiful panoramic views over the city.
