Visited it briefly in the mid-August 2018, just to take some coffee take away.

How I Made $3,951.86 with Google AdSense in last 9 years
| Blogging | 6 seen
Time flies as it turns out it has been already 9 years since I've been using Google AdSense to monetize online content. It was a late night on September 4th, 2009, when I finally decided to give it a try for Google AdSense. 9 years? That's almost a decade.
As the title says - I have made almost 4K in the last 9 years. You know what's more amazing? Almost half of that amount I made in the last year alone.
See:
- How I Made $2,135.03 with Google AdSense in 8 years
- How I Made $1,000 with Google AdSense in 7 years
Back then, 9 years ago, I had a dozen "web-projects", mostly powered by WordPress, I was exploring different niches and put a lot of time and energy in too many directions. I decided to try to monetize my efforts - and of course, I was thinking - I will make those million dollars overnight. I didn't. Actually, my most valuable asset back at those days generated me just about 6,000 monthly users (monthly, not daily). I made about four dollars in the first month, and maybe $10 four months later.
Soon I stopped my huge efforts on building the next big thing, and AdSense dollars stopped rolling in at all. From 2011 until the end of 2013 I was not using Google AdSense actively (from reports I can see, I have made a dollar, or two, maybe four dollars per month in some of the months during that period).
In October 2013 (that's about 5 years ago), I decided to stop spreading my efforts on many smaller projects and launched simple, personal blog, the one you are currently reading. See: It's official now - domain name ReinisFischer.com is on
Most of the money I have made with Google AdSense I have made with this blog in a period 2015 - 2018. With the last year being the top performing (about half or $1,816.83). My blog currently receives about 100,000 monthly users. That has been a huge leap over the years.
I have no clue where the next year will take me, but it would be awesome to double earnings from Google AdSense, and at the end of the 10th year to report -~$8,000 or about $333/mo hard, but doable.

August 2018 Dividend Income Report - $158.41
| Investments | 14 seen
Welcome to the sixteenth (#16) dividend income report, covering earnings I've made from dividend-paying stocks, peer to peer lending (both fiat and cryptocurrencies) in August 2018.
In case you are wondering why I'm sharing online my earnings - the answer is pretty simple - I like transparency and these reports help me to observe my progress or bounces. Hopefully, my reports can give some inspiration to you as well. Also, I have a goal to reach one million dollars in my bank account by the time I will turn 60 (27 years still to go).
Last August, I turned 33. This year we didn't go to any fancy trip, instead, we spent it at home with our newborn baby. As I've reached the age of 33 and as I have become a father, for the future I will put aside at least 53% of my yearly income. Here is the formula = years + 20 = 53%. I'm raising this number with every year.
Speaking of the baby - actually, last month I also started to invest in her name. And this August we got our first dividend payment. Continue reading to learn more how much.
Now, the last August was full of surprises and at the end of the month it said - $158.41 - August turned out much better (or about $70 better than expected), because of many late loans were paid back on Mintos.com platform, and for the first time in history, Mintos.com peer to peer lending generated more than EUR 100 in a month.

On the average, I should pull about $59.69 each month for the next 4 months to reach my $1200 goal for 2018. I got this feeling that I will reach and pass this goal easily.

Goals for August 2019
This is my favorite part of the reports - trying to forecast/set goals for the next year. But before setting goals for August 2019 dividend income, let's see what I forecasted for this August:
A year from now I'm looking for a minimum of $100 dividend income in August 2018.
Wow, I just did it and cracked it by additional $58. Awesome. Oh, a year ago I didn't felt so enthusiastic after reaching just $40 in the month of August.
Now, when speaking about August 2019 - I will set a humble goal to crack $160. Shouldn't be problematic with adding more US monthly and quarterly dividend paying stocks.
Is It Profitable Mining Ethereum (ETH) now (August / September 2018)?
| Servers | 75 seen
I have been operating a GPU ETH mining rig since the December 2017, the total cost so far to build it has been $1,661. That's a lot of money for just ~ 58MH/s hashing power. Now, things were different back in December 2017, let's see how does it works out now (August/September 2018).
Building a 12 GPU Ethereum Mining Rig From Scratch - Part 1: Ordering Details
For most of the Summer my Ethereum mining rig has been powered of (because of unprofitable mining - high electricity price / low etheruem price)
Mining ethereum August 2018
I turned on my mining rig for 24 hours, and mined 0.00417899 ETH (with ETH changing hand at $276.18) that gives me about $1.15. Not bad, but let's see how much we are spending here:
Ethereum mining calculator with 0.2$ per KWh
It turns out, I'm actually losing 0.4 dollars per day right now. Sure, I'm paying a hefty price 0.2$ per KWh and I could move my mining rig to some cheaper location, like for example Georgia, paying just 0.1$ per KWh and in theory I would generate a small profit even now:
Ethereum Mining Calculator with 0.1$ per KWh
Cheapest Electricity in Europe for crypto mining (Cost per kWh) 2018
Since December 2017, I have mined in total 0.54398387 ETH. To break even my base investment $1,661 ETH should reach $3.060 (hard, but doable).
Last time I measured, the price for ETH was well above $5,000 (now, this is a great achievement already)
To Break Even My GPU Mining Rig, Ethereum Should Reach $5,153

Converting Currency Balances (EUR/USD) Interactive Brokers / Lynx Trader
| Investments | 182 seen
A time ago I opened a brokerage account with Lynx Broker, which turns out is affiliated with Interactive Brokers.
As I opened my account from Europe, by default my base currency was set to EUR, which in fact is nice and neat, as SEPA transfers from my bank to brokerage account happens almost instantly (in the same day).
Now, as I started to acquire US stocks, I noticed I have a negative balance in USD currency (while still positive in EUR). I started to explore and found the following link: Converting Currency Balances
Account holders may find themselves holding balances in currencies other than their designated Base Currency as a result of trades in products denominated in a different currency or from profits/losses directly associated with Forex trading. In these cases, IB does not act to automatically convert balances back to the Base Currency as this action would require assumptions as to the account holder's desired currency exposure as well as the trade price at which they would be willing to close the position.
Now here is how to get fixed it:
- Select the Account icon from the TWS header.
- From the Account window, scroll down to the section titled "Market Value - Real FX Balance", place your cursor on a currency you wish to convert and right-click on the mouse to display the Close Currency menu option. You will be provided with two options, Close Currency Balance which will close the single currency you've selected and Close All Non-base Currency Balances which will close all.
Close currency balance
Next, an order line for the conversion trade will be populated on the TWS. The order will be set up with default conditions of a market order (“MKT”), good for that day and for the current position quantity. Select "T" to generate the Order Confirmation window using the default conditions or set the price and time conditions as desired.
Order Confirmation & Commission
I'm always paying a commission of 3.45 EUR on Lynx Broker for each such currency converting
Photoshop How to Solve: Could not complete the Save As command because there is not enough memory (RAM)
| Servers | 145 seen
The other morning I faced an issue Could not complete the Save As command because there is not enough memory (RAM)" while trying to save a .pdf files using Adobe Photoshop. I spent a couple of hours before finally found the solution:
The solution involves another problem - Error: An integer between 96 and 8 is required
When you try to access the Performance preferences (Edit > Preferences > Performance), Photoshop displays the error message: An integer between 96 and 8 is required. Closest value inserted.
You are unable to access the Performance settings in the Preferences dialog. Tools such as Blur and Liquify that use the graphics processor (GPU) card are also impacted.
Seems this issue appears after updating your operating system to Windows 10 Creators Update.
How To solve: Error: An integer between 96 and 8 is required / Could not complete the Save As command because there is not enough memory (RAM)
- Press Windows + R keys to bring up the Run dialog.
- Type regedit.exe and then press Enter.
- If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- In the Registry Editor window, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Photoshop\110.0 (or 120.0)
- Right-click the 110.0 folder and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value from the menu.
(Despite I'm running a 64-bit version, just 32-bit version did the trick)
In the right pane, name the new key as OverridePhysicalMemoryMB and press Enter.
Right-click the new key and choose Modify from the menu. In the Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value dialog, do the following:
In the Value Data field, change the value from 0 to a numeric megabyte value that reflects your system's physical memory. For example, enter 8196 for 8 GB, 16384 for 16 GB, or 24576 for 24 GB.
Set Base as Decimal.
Click OK.
Wild Horses at the Lake Pape (Latvia)
| Outdoor Activities | 29 seen
Now, this is an interesting story - we didn't meet any wild horses tonight, but found some great information. At least I did. It turns out, wild horses have been living here just since 1999 when WWF-Latvia started to stimulate the return of wild horses in 1999 in Latvia.
It was in the evening of my birthday when we finally reached the place called "Wild Horses at the Lake Pape " - unfortunately, turns out, such wild places, just like humans, have a working time. And at time we arrived this place was already closed.
The Large herbivore natural grazing area was established in the Eastern coast of the Lake Pape in 1999. Currently, the natural grazing area exceeds 400 ha and everyone can explore, how these animals are restoring the natural open landscape at the shores of the Lake Pape.
Excursions to the wild horses, auroxen are only available using local guides!
closed gates
The excursions are organized all year around by paying the entrance fee.
You should reserve at least one hour for a walk in the grazing area and be prepared by nature presence e.g. tall grass, weather conditions and insects. Also, all visitors should follow the safety regulations, which are depicted at the entrance of the grazing area.
Information desks at Pape nature reserve
Actually, for some reason, I want to draw parallels between this place and Flamingo Lagoon near Fuente de Piedra in Spain.
In 1999 WWF-Latvia (Pasaules Dabas Fonds) transported 18 “Konik Polski” wild horses. Their home is at the Lake Pape area in the district of Liepāja.
Every spring new foals are born at the Lake Pape natural grazing area. We can see great role of horses in nature protection. In the meadows of uneven grass one can meet wild geese and cranes, field birds make their nests in wet meadows, foxes hunt mice, disturbed by wild horses. We can enjoy bloomy flowers in former farming areas, bees gathering honey.
Pasaules Dabas Fonds is fully convinced that in future wild horses will help to create and maintain the great variety of nature diversity, as well as improve economical conditions of local inhabitants. Wild horses like elks or red deer are a inevitable part of the Latvian nature.

Pape Lighthouse
| Tourism objects | 50 seen
The Pape Lighthouse (Latvian: Papes bāka) is a lighthouse located on the Latvian coast of the Baltic Sea. I paid a short visit here during my 33 birthday in August 2018.
The lighthouse was built in 1910; in a place of a former lighthouse (which existed since 1887); on the southernmost tip of Latvia's coast to the Baltic Sea. Although this lighthouse doesn't impress as much as Akmenrags lighthouse located close to Pāvilosta, an interesting historical fact is that the lighthouse was known as a boundary beacon - by the border between tsarist Russia and Prussia.
Pape lighthouse
During its early existence (up until the end of World War I), the lighthouse was known as a boundary beacon - as the lighthouse guided ships to the port of Liepāja, on the border of the Russian Empire and Prussia.
The current lighthouse is a tube-like cylinder, supported by a riveting iron construction. Currently, the lighthouse is closed to visitors, although Emilis Melngailis - a famous Latvian composer, stayed overnight during his folklore expedition.

Unbiased Mintos.com Review - Results after 19 months
| Peer to Peer Lending | 23 seen
I've been investing in Mintos.com peer to peer lending marketplace since the beginning of 2017, or it has been already 19 months since I've been exposing my funds to this Latvian fintech platform.
In the past 19 months, I've made a nice revenue of EUR 624.78 (before tax) from an investment worth little more than EUR 4,000
I should note that I have been skeptical regarding peer to peer lending business in general and I when started my humble journey with Mintos.com I decided not to invest here more than EUR 5,000. In fact, Mintos.com is the only one peer to peer lending platform I have tried, and I don't plan to try any other platform (yet).
I really like the way how Mintos operates, these past 19 months here have given me a lot of confidence to trust the platform, buyback guarantee works excellent, all due loans have been bought back with interest applied.
Still, I won't hide my doubts in the longer-term success of such business, mainly because of the following reason - investments in developing economies. Countries and regions where Mintos.com operates right now seems are experiencing growth. Or, let's say - we are in the bull market, but what will happen during upcoming bear market? For me, EUR 5,000 is a maximum limit to invest here.
Remember your capital is at risk, never invest more you can afford to lose.
At the end of July 2018, mintos.com took the second largest position (after stocks) in my portfolio with 24.6% of my funds invested on Mintos.com marketplace.
Investment portfolio at the end of July 2018
The overall impact on the total portfolio for Mintos has decreased from all time height at 100% in January 2017 to little less than 25% at the end of July 2018. And I'm glad. The reason is simple:
- My investment portfolio started just in 2017
- I have diversified it in Stocks, mutual fund, crypto, cash and peer to peer lending
A diversified portfolio helps. Never put all eggs in one basket, as they say.
24.6% seems kind of save level to be exposed to peer to peer lending, but in fact, I would love to limit this number around 20% this year.
Despite being just second in size Mintos, has been the top earner in terms of dividend income (loan repayment) in 2017 and 2018, in a passive income earning me EUR 624.78. Combined dividend income from stocks earned me EUR 587.47 since 2017. Mintos slightly beats income from stocks.
Both individuals and entities can invest through Mintos. Individual investors must be at least 18 years old, have a bank account in the European Union or third countries currently considered to have AML/CFT systems equivalent to the EU, and have their identity successfully verified by Mintos. At the moment, US citizens or taxpayers cannot register as investors at Mintos.

Remember - investments are risky, never invest more you can afford to lose.
Background - I first heard about this Latvian fintech at the start of 2016, one thing that made it attractive to me was an option to lend in Georgia (the country I've been living since 2011). As been familiar with overall Georgian economy and the fact that so-called fast credits are very popular among Georgian population, just oblivious I did it find appealing to monetize on it somehow. And Mintos seemed like a plan. See: Invest in Georgia - Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lending - Mintos.com
Now, some things have changed since I have been investing with Mintos, and one of them - currently investors cannot deposit GEL directly on the platform, I have expressed my thoughts on this in June 2018 dividend income report article.
About interest earned on mintos.com
During the past 19 months, I've invested in total EUR 4,056.72 and have made a profit from interest payments EUR 624.78
Monthly income from Mintos.com
Mintos.com contributes regularly to my dividend income with little over than EUR 40/mo
Withdrawing money and paying taxes
I have made two withdrawals this year, At the start of 2018 I decided to withdraw all interest earned on Mintos.com peer to peer marketplace and finance new purchases on Nasdaq Baltics Stock exchange Later this year I repeated this action to fund some US stock buys.
Now, from money earned on Mintos.com platform I should pay taxes, luckily the platform offers simple tax guidance for the citizens of Latvia, Germany, and other countries.
We are currently able to provide tax statements prepared according to German and Latvian requirements. Please note that tax reports for German investors for the year 2017 will be available from the end of January, 2018. If you are not tax resident of Germany or Latvia, you may still select your prefered country - this data will be used to inform the next countries for which tax statements will be introduced.
I requested my Tax Report, which was shortly emailed, and for 2017 seems I need to pay a tax from EUR 49.99 and not EUR 311 (as I thought at the start). As I'm not a tax advisor, I cannot comment much on here, but I believe the tax will be much greater for 2018, as tax seems is calculated only for fully repaid loans in the current year (interest earned + refund of base investment). As I have many long-term (48 months and more loans) these loans seems will be taxed in next years. Not Sure. Consult your tax advisor!
Invest in Cryptocurrencies - Review After 13 Months (Dollar Cost Averaging)
| Crypto | 10 seen
Time flies and it turns out it has been already more than one year since I've been investing in cryptocurrencies. Wow, what an interesting time it has been - starting with buy and hold, day trading, and even building up a custom ethereum mining rig. At one time I even experimented with cloud mining contracts.
It all started in the July 2017 when the idea of purchasing crypto once in a month came after a brief conversation with a friend over Facebook, while I was enjoying mild Summer nights in Crete, Greece.
As I had already investments and even investment strategy, since the start of 2017. Desire or FOMO (fears of missing out) to acquire cryptocurrencies was so huge, that I quickly developed, so-called, Dollar Cost Averaging strategy to buy and hold cryptocurrencies. I had a plan to buy 3-5 cryptocurrencies each month, no matter the price, until the end of 2020.
In general, that is still in what I believe - dollar cost averaging, but since July 2018 I have stopped buying more cryptocurrencies, instead focusing on dividend stock portfolio. Let's say this I have taken pause in buying more crypto. Still holding though.
I opened an account on Coinbase, (it was easy to open an account there, but it took some time to actually get verified account and start trading) I bought ETH first, then bought additional litecoins and bitcoins, additionally I bough (exchanged) additional ripple (XRP) coins, again - FOMO. See: Why I Rushed to Buy Ripple (XRP) Cryptocurrency at $0.19
Dollar cost averaging in cryptos 13 month later
These are the coins I have in my crypto portfolio - bitcoin, litecoin, ethereum, ripple, bitcoin cash and siacoin.
During 2017 and 2018 I have invested in cryptos €2,445.08 (that's about EUR 200/mo) with a value set at €2,693.40 my portfolio has gained about +10%. Decent.
As you can see from the graph above - December / January was the All-Time Height.
July 2018 Dividend Income Report - $202.84

Welcome to the fifteenth (#15) dividend income report, covering earnings I've made from dividend-paying stocks, peer to peer lending (both fiat and cryptocurrencies) in July 2018.
In case you are wondering why I'm sharing online my earnings - the answer is pretty simple - I like transparency and these reports help me to observe my progress or bounces. Hopefully, my reports can give some inspiration to you as well.
For the second year in a row - July is the best performing month in my portfolio, and this July did break all milestones and for the first time since tracking, cracked pretty impressive $200 milestone.

Interest income in July 2018
From the stocks, Mintos.com peer to peer lending and from cryptocurrency lending on Poloniex.com I got following income last month:

On the average, I should pull about $79.44 each month for the next 5 months to reach my $1200 goal for 2018. Right now it seems I'm on the right track.

Goals for July 2019
This is my favorite part of the reports - trying to forecast/set goals for the next year. But before setting goals for July 2019 dividend income, let's see what I forecasted for this July:
I'm looking to get about $200 in July 2018 dividend income
Wow, I just did it. Amazing!
Now, when speaking about July 2019 - I will set a goal to crack $300. Hard but doable.
