How to Place a Stop Loss Order on Coinbase Pro

For most of the time, I have been using a Coinbase Pro account just to buy and hold Bitcoin once a week. Just recently I started thinking about trading Bitcoin more frequently - like a couple of times per day using trade signals like Moving Averages with Golden and Death Cross.

The idea is quite simple - Once there is a trade signal indicating a buy - I will manually buy Bitcoin, to protect myself I want to set a stop loss of about 1% under my bought price. In case of trends reverse, I’m protected and don’t blow my account.

As an active stock trader I know pretty well the concept of stop losses, but working on a new platform there is always some learning curve involved in understanding the platform itself, so I was familiarizing myself with the Coinbase Pro platform and was looking how to place a stop-loss order, luckily I found this awesome article to kickstart my learning curve

To place a stop-loss order, you’ll need to have an open position. Change the order type from Buy to Sell and select the Stop tab. You will see three fields, and here’s what they mean:

• Stop Price: price at which the order triggers

• Amount: amount you want to sell

• Limit Price: the price at which you will sell

The most confusing part about a stop-loss order is understanding the difference between the stop price and the limit price. Once you grasp that concept, it will all make sense.

Let’s assume I just bought one Bitcoin, and the current price is EUR 37,600. I want to be protected in case of Bitcoin drops under EUR 37,500 and sell it with minimal loss.

I will set up a stop price at EUR 37,500, in case Bitcoin hits this price, my order will trigger, but as I have set my limit price a bit lower it will sell at EUR 37,450 

In an ideal world, my account will be protected against a sharp drop, and from the above example, I will lose just EUR 150 or 0.4% from my initial investment.

Weekend trip to Batumi from Tbilisi by Train

In this article, I will share notes and points of interest from our latest trip to Batumi during the Orthodox Easter 2022.

We were traveling from Tbilisi Railway station by train, paying GEL 25 for a seat in second class (The price for the seat in first class was GEL 60, business class GEL 100). Comfortable 2-story Swiss-built Stadler train, the total travel time about 6 hours. Just a few stops - Tbilisi - Ureki, Kobuleti, Batumi.

Batumi railway station is not located in the city center, so we took a Taxi (Bolt app) and paid about 5-6 GEL for a transfer to our hotel near the Boulevard. We chose to stay at Best Western Premium hotel, which is located out of the city center but offered a king-size bed with an additional bed for our daughter, free breakfast, and access to the heated indoor swimming pool for just GEL 200/ per night. In total paying GEL 800 for a 4-night stay here.

Originally I had an idea to hire some local driver and explorer the Khulo area and Chakvi (I wanted to film tea plantations), but in the end, we decides to take it easy and enjoy our swimming pool, trade some stocks and bitcoin futures from the hotel room. Which I in fact enjoyed. As an options trader, I always enjoy trading from different places and then diving into a swimming pool or Ocean.

I hired Bolt to take us to the Batumi Botanical garden, we spent a beautiful day here and made a ton of drone footage. The entrance price is GEL 15 per person. We were lucky enough to catch a taxi also back from the Botanical garden back to the city, where we had a nice dinner at some of the local restaurants. ordered some chmereuli, adjaruli and more. Lovely.

It seemed there are a few shopping malls to visit in Batumi, but from the outside, they looked rather non-promising and we didn't even try. One day we spent wandering around Batumi bay and port, visited Batumi miracle park with the famous statue of Ali and Nino while having some ice cream at Piazza square. On our last day in Batumi visited Batumi Central park and had a very good dinner at Grill Town restaurant. 

On our way back to Tbilisi, on the train, we met a Greek / Latvian couple and the hours passed fast. Easy going trip. Budget? About GEL 1,400. Unfortunately, this was not a very good weekend for trading, was able to collect just a mere $40 from selling call options and about $14 from trading bitcoin futures. So cannot say trading this time covered our expenses :)

High Risk / High Return Investment Opportunity in Batumi Real Estate

After spending a weekend in Batumi I decided to take a closer look at the booming, but somehow stagnating Batumi real estate market.

At the start, I couldn't believe that there are real estate offers starting $750 per square meter. Now I have a feeling if I would look more carefully, and bargain a bit I could get something even for $500 in the new development projects.

After contacting a few real estate developers in Batumi I was getting quite interested in buying an apartment under construction to sell once finished.

I got a few offers, from several companies, and I focused on a small studio 26.6 m2 apartment with a price of $680/m2, with a downpayment of 30% and the rest in 24 months.

The total cost would be $18,088 once finished. For me, it doesn't seem much for an apartment, yes small, but an apartment in a seaside resort. And I believe I could sell it at $25,000 - $30,000 if there are buyers, or in the worst case to let it out. The only problem - there are zillions of such projects in Batumi and seems there are no buyers. the other question we should ask - will there be buyers in 2 years? 3 years or 5 years?

I believe, there will. As I have some interest in Batumi Real estate development I decided to crowdfund or buy together one such small unit with co-investors, and now looking for business partners/investors.

I'm looking to issue a crypto token, most likely on the Ethereum network - issuing 100 new coins, with a set value of $200 per coin. Total supply of 100 coins, a total value of $20,000. Each coin represents 1% property rights of the apartment. Investors who will buy at least 20 coins ($4,000) will have a chance to register their share of the property in their names. 

If we will be able to collect for the downpayment until June 1st, 2022 - we will proceed with making a contract with the developer. If we won't be able to collect for the downpayment - funds will be released and returned to investors.

To keep up skin in the game - I will invest 20% myself and will have 20 coins.

My aim with this offer is not to make a quick buck, but to make connections with like-minded investors, realize this project on smart-contract and if successful, grow this into something much bigger than just one apartment in Batumi

Batumi Central Park / 6th May park

Batumi Central park is really cool and relaxing attraction with a huge lake in the middle located in front of the Hilton Hotel.

It's said that the park/garden is more than 130 years old and was constructed together with Batumi boulevard back in 1881.

Despite I've visited Batumi zillions of times, I even have lived there some 10 years ago, this was the first time me visiting this park. Indeed very nice, with a little nice mini-zoo inside

6 May Park of Batumi is an ancient garden in Georgia. It has more than 130 years of history. The park was constructed in 1881 under the direction of gardener Ressler.

In 1885, for the park’s and boulevard's reconstruction works, famous Franch gardener Michael Dalfonse was invited. The total area of the park’s territory was 78 000 square meters for this period of time. Concerning the garden, it was named Alexander’s Garden, in honor of the  Imperator of Russia. In 1932, the garden was reconstructed as a cultural and recreational park, in 1933 as a park for kids, later on as a pioneers’ camp, and since 2006 its name is 6 May Park.

Best Western Premier Batumi hotel is one of our best finds in Batumi, the price corresponds to the service. Budget-friendly 4-star hotel with a swimming pool.

I booked this hotel directly by calling to the reception instead booking online and got a very nice offer - 800 GEL for 4 nights with breakfast included and additional head for our 3-year old kiddo. Not centrally located, but taxis are quite affordable in Batumi, literally we spent about 2-3 GEL for getting to the city center and GEL 8-10 to getting to Batumi botanical garden with Bolt taxi. Very affordable.

This property is 2 minutes walk from the beach. Best Western Premier Batumi in Batumi features a terrace. The property is close to Dolphinarium, Batumi Archeological Museum and Holy Mother Virgins Nativity Cathedral. Europe Square is a 19-minute walk from the hotel.

At the hotel, rooms have a wardrobe. With a private bathroom, all units at Best Western Premier Batumi also have a balcony. The rooms are fitted with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels.

Invest in Batumi Real Estate (Buying Black Frame Projects)

For years I've been against real estate investments, as I have never really understood them, or they have seemed out of the reach because of the high price attached. Instead, I prefer the stock market and bitcoin.

Let's say I invest in what I understand. I cannot say I understand the stock market 100%, even less for cryptocurrencies, but at least I know how to make money out of them

Real estate for profit-generating seems - way too complicated to me, and as long you haven't inherited some nice flat in a prime location, I don't see the point in buying it to let it out on Airbnb. By the way, a few weeks ago I met a girl in Tbilisi, she is doing the Airbnb thing in Tbilisi - she said, she can generate 100% return from her investment, which seems outstanding.

Anyhow, back to real estate in Batumi

The real estate market is booming in Batumi, at least for the past 10 years. Back in 2012, we lived in Batumi for about 6 months and I can only assure you, the cityscape has changed dramatically, not very well known areas of the city now have become very hot investment areas.

Many international brands, like Hilton, Marriot, Radisson, Best Western, Wyndham, Sheraton, and more are present in Batumi.

As we're living in Tbilisi, we love to come to Batumi once or twice per year. Mostly booking nice hotel at prime location with a swimming pool and sauna, staying for a few days or a weekend, so did happen this time, we booked 4-star Best Western hotel Batumi hotel, which actually is not very prime located, not even with direct access to the sea. and I started to explore the area and kind of felt like being in Colombo, Sri Lanka with a Soviet touch. 

I noticed a few billboards advertising black frame properties in Batumi starting at $650 per square meter.

Black frame - means - under construction.

Which actually is an option buying with a huge discount. Though I can see risks involved too - like never actually finishing the building, etc.

Some small 30m2 apartments are available, so $650 means just about $20,000.. and in case you are lucky you have a chance to sell it for $30,000 or $40,000 when finished. Now this already seems interesting - investing in black frame projects, praying the project is finished, and then reselling it for profit.

Even best, most of the offers in Batumi (and Tbilisi) come with a 20% or 30% first payment ... here is an example offer I got from Star Residences Batumi

Our project "Star Palace Batumi" is located on the first sea line,  100 meters from the sea.
For today finished 28 floors, delivery date is the end of the 2022 year.

Project consists from 30  floors and  at this moment I  can offer units from 17th floor till 28th floor.
Price per sq.m. from 650 $ - till 900 $
payment plan:
1. Installment with 30% down payment for 36months, (in this case white frame is a present from company)
2. 100% payment, ( discounts from 50 $, for per sq.m)

Yes, looks nothing impressive, I would say neglected, but should look quite modern once finished, hopefully with parking. I don't see many problems in reselling or at least renting out for holiday goers. Do I want it? Not sure, but I must admit the offer is tempting, and there are many such offers in Batumi (and Tbilisi). 

With 30% first payment it would be just about $6,000 (assuming 30m2) now and the rest $14,000 in the next 36 months or about $388/mo - seems quite doable. If I will succeed in bitcoin futures trading in the next 6 months I will come after such a deal in Batumi, meantime - interesting enough.

Good evening from Tbilisi!

The day started with a few short positions on Bitcoin, while I was waiting for the stock futures updates from CNBC, visited my hairdresser Katya, got my hair trimmed and straightened. Love it.

The futures market opened and showed kind of a green day ahead, my short positions on Bitcoin got challenged, but I decided to keep them open and see what happens next.

We went to the newly opened Domino DIY shopping mall in the Dighomi area and bought some goodies and tools for Sandra's urban garden in Vake. At 16:00 we had agreed on a teacher-parent meeting at QSI.

Had a lovely conversation with Ms. Nino, and discussed our 3-year olds achievements at school. All is good. Progressing by days.

The stock market opened and Bitcoin gained another 500 points, I kept adding more short positions, but at one moment accidentally placed a buy, instead of a short, took a small loss.

Not sure if sustainable, but for now Bitcoin correlates with SP 500.

Bitcoin, Gym, SP 500 and Tbilisi

Another interesting week has started here in Tbilisi. At the night I woke up I placed a long position on Bitcoin futures at $40,017, later in the morning before going to the gym I noticed Bitcoin in but under $40,000. Once I was at the gym Bitcoin tumbled another 1000 points, and I had a chance to think a lot about liquidity issues.

Post-processed a few photographs and made a short movie about our Easter adventures. 

I know Bitcoin correlates with SPX 500, so I was waiting for the futures market to open and quite frequently refreshed CNBC. during the day Bitcoin bit recovered and I placed a few more trades with a long position. 

At 15:20 left for the QSI school, with Ramaz, our new driver. At the school noticed the Latvian flag was finally raised. Happy Made a selfie with daughter. i have been asking for the flag since mid-January.

Bitcoin recovered a bit more, the stock market opened - I sold one call option on TLRY. As we are planning a trip to Batumi this Wed, I guess I will have a very fun Friday with options.

5-min chart Bitcoin Trading Strategy with Parabolic SAR, RSI and Heikin Ashi candles

For the past two months, I've been experimenting with trading Bitcoin and Ethereum futures on the Deribit platform. So far I can report mixed success.

For most of the time, I was trading a 1-min chart, as it seemed to offer more trades, more excitement, yes it worked quite well, even profitable, but in the end, I always ended up blowing up my account, because of some open overnight trade e.t.c. For now, I can say 1-min candle charts are too noisy. 5-min candle charts take away some noise, at least I believe so.

I stopped trading for a few weeks until one lovely Sunday afternoon sipping cappuccino at one of the posh Tbilisi restaurants I decided to give bitcoin trading another chance. Again I went to the 1-min charts and again I almost blew up my account. I watched a YouTube video about trading a 5-min chart with Parabolic SAR, RSI, and Heikin Ashi candles.

I decided to give it a try. After the first day of trading, I was really impressed. In this article, I'll share some notes from my trading setup.

Indicators:

• Parabolic SAR: default
• EMA: 200
• RSI

I left default settings for Parabolic SAR and EMA, a little bit fine-tuned RSI (but in general you can leave it intact)

Entering trades:

enter trades only when all three parameters are met.

I did 5 trades with shorting bitcoin using this strategy and to my surprise, all 5 were winning trades and in fact, were among some of my best trades so far

The Bottom Line

Seems that fewer trades with longer timeframes offer better results.

Welcome to the fifty-ninth (#59) dividend income report, covering earnings I've made from dividend-paying stocks in March 2022.

Last month we spent both in Georgia and Latvia. We had a Spring break from QSI school in Tbilisi and we decided to visit Latvia, my daughter had a chance to pick up some Latvian, and I had a chance to install floors at our Vilgåle apt. Also, we bought an old Mercedes Benz ML 400 SUV car, so we have transport next time when in Latvia. Rental cars add up in the end.

Welcome to another Kuldīga Restaurant review - today I will write about a lovely pizza place located just in heart of Kuldīga town - Goldingen Room Artisan Pizza.

The family restaurant Goldingen room, located in the heart of the old town of Kuldiga – Town Hall Square, is a story about the taste and mood of Italy. The restaurant offers to discover flavors of Mediterranean cuisine, complete with topping-up local produce and matching wines from Italian, French and local producers, and other soft drinks. You can also enjoy real Italian pizzas here, fried in a wood-burned pizza oven, delicious Italian pasta, and more. The interior of the restaurant is designed in an industrial romantic way. Every detail, original furniture, and the dish is thoughtful.

Turns out this article has been in my draft section since early April 2015, so long we have been visiting this place once in a while, and what's best - the quality and service still feel as it was back in the days.
