Cycling, hiking and other interesting outdoor activities in Georgia and other places.

Hiking Route in Georgia - Norio Village - Martkopi Monastery

Hiking from Norio village to Martkopi monastery is about 10km long distance (forth and back), best done in Spring, Summer or early Autumn. The route is pretty steep, though covered with asphalt, there are parts of damaged surface and some agility is needed.  The route offers kind of Wilderness in Georgia views, with ruined bridge, tumble asphalt, livestock with a really nice Martkopi monastery at the end of the route. Tip: You could get to the Norio village just for 1.5...

Hiking trails near Turtle lake, Tbilisi in Winter

I'm fond of hiking/trekking trails near Turtle lake in Tbilisi, I have done several routes, with my favorite being unaccessible anymore after the Tbilisi flooding in June 2015. See: Failed attempt to complete Tskneti - Turtle lake hiking route Now, since it was about a year since our latest hiking activities in Georgia, on a lovely's Sunday morning (February 5, 2017) we decided to catch a taxi (see: How to Get around in Tbilisi by Taxify (Taxi Mobile Application) ) and head to the...

Failed attempt to complete Tskneti - Turtle lake hiking route

About a year ago I discovered very cool hiking route in Tbilisi, heading from Turtle lake to Tskneti town. The total distance for this route was about 7 km and it offered very spectacular landscape views. I have completed this route several times - last time together with my dad in May, 2015. At the start of February I decided to offer this route as a possible photo / hike route for Georgia Expat Photographer club members, but before that I decided to check is it safe...

Hiking in Borjomi (Georgia)

A group of four Georgia Expat Photographer club members visited Borjomi on September 20, and we did a lovely hike here. I took my camera, Map My Ride app (great for recording trekking routes) and here is the result. During this route which took us some 3 hours we visited 2 lovely monastery sites, discovered an open air sulphur pools, spent some time in Borjomi mineral water park and of course took that lovely Borjomi cable car About route: In total this route was...

Cycling in Jūrmala (Bicycle Tourism)

Welcome to another cycling series post - this time about cycling in Latvian beach resort city Jūrmala. Actually it has been a while when I last time sat on my bicycle back in Tbilisi, Georgia. We headed to Jūrmala city just shortly after the 3rd Eastern Partnership Business forum which was held in Riga. We stayed overnight at the lovely hotel Dzintars in Jūrmala and got a free bike rental at our hotel.  Bicycles we used back there in Jūrmala were more some...

Tbilisi By Night - Cycling Old Town To Didube

The other day we took again our bikes and made a pretty lovely night ride in Tbilisi. From Old Tbilisi to Didube and back. For some reason my GPS tracker (MapMyRide) didn't worked properly, it missed at least first 2 km from this route. Another thing to mention -  I have a pretty bad camera for night vision shots back at the time I didn't know how to shoot night photography the right way, please don't judge too hard my shots of nightly Tbilisi. Speaking from cycling's view of ...

Hiking In Birtvisi Canyon (Hidden Trails Of Georgia)

The other day in company of three we headed to Birtvisi Canyon for some hiking experience. It all started reading some info of a non-standard close to Tbilisi located destinations. And Birtvisi just popped up on this list. Turns out - there is a Birtvisi Fortress located somewhere in the middle of these canyons. I had never before heard of such place and was pretty much agreeably surprised learning that it's located just some one hour drive distance from Tbilisi in region of Kvemo Kartli (...

Best Outdoor Activities In Georgia (Tbilisi and Beyond)

In this article I have listed few interesting outdoor activities one (perhaps you) can perform in Republic of Georgia. Since soon it will be already four years since I have been living here, I have some thoughts what's cool and what's not.  I'm more hiking / cycling person, so you will find a few interesting hiking routes in Tbilisi and a few cycling routes. As well you will learn about rafting opportunities in Georgia or skiing options at Georgian winter resort Gudauri. Or fishing near...

Best Hikes In Tbilisi Are Located Near Turtle Lake

I have been living in Georgia for already four years now. I have traveled around country much. See my travels in Georgia on map. Probably one of my most Favorite destinations in Tbilisi is Turtle Lake. In hot summer days I head here to do some work (most cases some Drupal development) or brainstorm new ideas. Though I started to blog - document my travels just in 2013, I have been here (Turtle lake) some hundred times for sure. If at start I headed here just for chilling near the lake, then...

Hiking trails near Turtle Lake (Tbilisi) - Photos And Route Map

Welcome to another hiking / trekking post in Tbilisi.  This time in a company of three we made a route from Turtle Lake - Round Garden (Eristavi street).  As warm weather is more approaching, I'm more into outdoor activities. So - last week we took our bikes and headed to Lisi lake. Speaking of hiking near Turtle lake - this was already third time this year (first two were made on January) - so it actually doesn't matter what are the weather conditions, right? This time I did...

Gudauri - Cost Free And Fun Outdoor Activities

Gudauri is well known as Georgian winter capital thanks to it's skiing infrastructure. But that doesn't mean Gudauri is expensive and those with limited budget can't have fun at Gudauri as well. Turns out - there are a dozen of option to enjoy winter activities absolutly for free. Honeslty speaking I was sursprised and that's the reason me making this blog post. OK, who I'm trying to trick - actually if you are heading to Gudauri for mountain skiing, there are two options: You are coming here...

Hiking Trails in Tbilisi - Turtle Lake (Kus Tba) - Tskneti

I believe one of my most favourite places in Tbilisi is a Turtle Lake (Kus Tba). I have been heading here pretty often, actually just a few weeks ago we did a shorter hiking route heading from Turtle lake to Vake Park. There are pretty many hiking trails around Turtle lake - if you are found of eco-tourism or just like me (us) are looking to wind your head from noisy city sounds - these hikes will do it best! Today we made a spontaneous route from Turtle lake to Tskenti. At start of this trip...

Hiking in Tbilisi - Turtle lake (Kus Tba) - Vake Park

On a lovely and sunny Saturday morning we decided to take a hiking from Turtle's Lake down to Vake Park. First thing first. How to get to the Turtle Lake? Catch a Taxi, or call a taxi company. Personally I prefer taxi company with number 2 155 155. Drive to Turtle lake should cost you around 5 GEL. If you prefer to catch a taxi on street - price may go up to 10 Lari, but I wouldn't pay more than 8 Lari. Actually Turtle Lake or Kus Tba (same in Georgian) is one of the best attractions of...

Cycling Tbilisi - Night Ride - Tbilisi Old Town

This ride was an extended versions for ride I made a few days ago - Dinamo Arena - Dibude. And again - evening (night), with hopes there will be less people in the streets and less vehicles. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. Seems, Tbilisi never sleeps - and speaking of night cycling in this Caucasus city- it seems even more dangerous than cycling bt day - in day there are at least traffic jams, making overall vehicle movement  slow - by night - there are...

Cycling Tbilisi Embankment - evening ride - Dinamo Arena - Didube

Yesterday was a hot day, it was about 37 Celsius, and I offered to make a cycling after 9:00PM, but we agreed to ride at 7:00PM, at first we stopped for some chicken barbecue at 11 Katkha restaurant near Dinamo Stadium. It turned out - yesterday Georgian National Football team played against Kazakhstan, since our favourite restaurant is located right next to Dinamo Stadium, it was full with folks eager to have a drink before the game. That's another interesting observation -  about 95% of...

Rafting in Georgia - Khertvisi - Aspindza - Borjomi

Some time ago we find some offer on Facebook offering rafting tour in Georgia for 2 days - on Mtkvari river. Tour included raft, safety wests, oars, overnight in tents. It sounded pretty good, and we decided to claim this offer. Said - done! Our rafting tour started Saturday morning from Tbilisi (minibuss waited for rafters next to Radisson Blue and it was supposed to leave Tbilisi at 9:00 AM) As usualy doing something unexpected I don't plan it very detailed - for me it was clear - it's...

Cycling to Tbilisi sea and back

Today was a great Saturday, we took our bikes and rode to Tbilisi sea and back. It was all day long (more than four hours) fun experience in very hot Summer day in Georgia. Cycling in Tbilisi: Left Embankment of Mtkvari

Left Embankment of Mtkvari is one of the longest asphalt pavement cycling distances in city of Tbilisi - it stretches from Didube to Ortochala (passing Tbilisi Old Town). It is among the easiest routes as well.  For today's cycling assignment I decided to use section Marjinashvili - Didube - Marjinashivli from Left Embankment of Mtkvari Embankment of Mtkvari in Tbilisi is really cool place for riders (and not only), except sudden obstacles, like inappropriate...

Cycling in Tbilisi: Marjanishvili - Ortachala

Here are some candid street photos from today's ride: Apartment blocks in Tbilisi New skyscrapers been built in Tbilisi Traffic jam in Tbilisi Tbilisi, December 23rd Does it looks like a Christmas? Georgian Fishing tours: Jandari lake

I first met Giorgi from Georgian fishing tours back at the end of 2013, when we did a fishing tour at Jandari lake organized by his company. I noticed a free fishing tour offer on their Facebook page. I claimed that offer and I was the lucky to actually get a free fishing tour. Make sure you follow their Facebook page as well - who knows, maybe more such offers will follow. If not - price for such tours are not very expensive and is worth of every tetri spent. So, that...
