Hiking in Borjomi (Georgia)

A group of four Georgia Expat Photographer club members visited Borjomi on September 20, and we did a lovely hike here. I took my camera, Map My Ride app (great for recording trekking routes) and here is the result. During this route which took us some 3 hours we visited 2 lovely monastery sites, discovered an open air sulphur pools, spent some time in Borjomi mineral water park and of course took that lovely Borjomi cable car About route: In total this route was 8.25 km long, took about 3…

Cycling in Jūrmala (Bicycle Tourism)

Welcome to another cycling series post - this time about cycling in Latvian beach resort city Jūrmala. Actually it has been a while when I last time sat on my bicycle back in Tbilisi, Georgia. We headed to Jūrmala city just shortly after the 3rd Eastern Partnership Business forum which was held in Riga. We stayed overnight at the lovely hotel Dzintars in Jūrmala and got a free bike rental at our hotel.  Bicycles we used back there in Jūrmala were more some hipster style (not professional) but…

Tbilisi By Night - Cycling Old Town To Didube

The other day we took again our bikes and made a pretty lovely night ride in Tbilisi. From Old Tbilisi to Didube and back. For some reason my GPS tracker (MapMyRide) didn't worked properly, it missed at least first 2 km from this route. Another thing to mention -  I have a pretty bad camera for night vision shots back at the time I didn't know how to shoot night photography the right way, please don't judge too hard my shots of nightly Tbilisi. Speaking from cycling's view of point - this…

Hiking In Birtvisi Canyon (Hidden Trails Of Georgia)

The other day in the company of three we headed to Birtvisi Canyon for some hiking experience. It all started reading some info of a non-standard close to Tbilisi located destinations. And Birtvisi just popped up on this list. Turns out - there is a Birtvisi Fortress located somewhere in the middle of these canyons. I had never before heard of such place and was pretty much surprised learning that it's located just some one-hour drive from Tbilisi, in the region of Kvemo Kartli (Lower Kartli…

Hiking trails near Turtle Lake (Tbilisi) - Photos And Route Map

Welcome to another hiking / trekking post in Tbilisi.  This time in a company of three we made a route from Turtle Lake - Round Garden (Eristavi street).  As warm weather is more approaching, I'm more into outdoor activities. So - last week we took our bikes and headed to Lisi lake. Speaking of hiking near Turtle lake - this was already third time this year (first two were made on January) - so it actually doesn't matter what are the weather conditions, right? This time I did record this…

Welcome to another cycling in Tbilisi post series. Today I will write about our latest cycling route near the Lisi lake, will provide you with a cycling map and plenty of photos I managed to capture here.  During this cycling route, we discovered a few and very interesting places in Tbilisi I had previously barely heard but never had visited them before. Places like Tbilisi Hippodrome and Tbilisi Dog Shelter.  It all started with a call to a friend with a mini-van. Damn, we are like typical…

Gudauri - Cost Free And Fun Outdoor Activities

Gudauri is well known as Georgian winter capital thanks to it's skiing infrastructure. But that doesn't mean Gudauri is expensive and those with limited budget can't have fun at Gudauri as well. Turns out - there are a dozen of option to enjoy winter activities absolutly for free. Honeslty speaking I was sursprised and that's the reason me making this blog post. OK, who I'm trying to trick - actually if you are heading to Gudauri for mountain skiing, there are two options: You are coming here…

Hiking Trails in Tbilisi - Turtle Lake (Kus Tba) - Tskneti

I believe one of my most favourite places in Tbilisi is a Turtle Lake (Kus Tba). I have been heading here pretty often, actually just a few weeks ago we did a shorter hiking route heading from Turtle lake to Vake Park. There are pretty many hiking trails around Turtle lake - if you are found of eco-tourism or just like me (us) are looking to wind your head from noisy city sounds - these hikes will do it best! Today we made a spontaneous route from Turtle lake to Tskenti. At start of this trip…

Hiking in Tbilisi - Turtle lake (Kus Tba) - Vake Park

On a lovely and sunny Saturday morning, we decided to take hiking from Turtle's Lake down to Vake Park. First thing first. How to get to Turtle Lake? Catch a Taxi, or call a taxi company. Personally, I prefer the taxi company with number 2 155 155. Drive to Turtle lake should cost you around 5 GEL. If you prefer to catch a taxi on street - the price may go up to 10 Lari, but I wouldn't pay more than 8 Lari. Update: Use taxi ride companies like Bolt Actually, Turtle Lake or Kus Tba is one…

Cycling Tbilisi - Night Ride - Tbilisi Old Town

This ride was an extended versions for ride I made a few days ago - Dinamo Arena - Dibude. And again - evening (night), with hopes there will be less people in the streets and less vehicles. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. Seems, Tbilisi never sleeps - and speaking of night cycling in this Caucasus city- it seems even more dangerous than cycling bt day - in day there are at least traffic jams, making overall vehicle movement  slow - by night - there are less cars (of course), but they drive twice as…
