3 Weeks in Crete (Complete Itinerary list)
| Travel guides | 65 seen
This is a round-up post for our 3 weeks trip to Crete, Grece in June 2017, listing most of the places (tourism objects, hotels, restaurants, and more)
In short, we fled from Tbilisi via Athens to Chania, see About Tbilisi - Athens - Chania (Greece) flight by Aegean Airlines, spent some 8 hours in Athens, and arrived at Chania international airport from where our Cretan trip started.
From the airport, we took a public bus (the price was cheap, some EUR 2 per person, or something).
Once we arrived at the Chania bus station we found our apartment we had prebooked already in Georgia, and it was some 5-minute walking distance from the bus station.
In the evening we went out to have some Cretan-style dinner, and I made some lovely night photography in Chania.
The next morning we decided to head to the nearby town of Agia Marina and caught a taxi at Chania bus station which to us to the hotel in Agia Marina for EUR 8
We spent the next couple of days in Agia Marina, laying on the beaches, dining in the nearby town of Platanias, and sometimes driving to Chania town for some shopping.
On the third or fourth day in Agia Marina, we took a rental car and started exploring the Island of Crete, making stops at places like Kalydonia, Kissamos, Balos Beach, Kaliviani. In the evening we booked a 4-star hotel in Palaichora and took the wrong road to discover we have taken an offroad, see: Crazy, Stupid, Love - Tranquil Rough Adventures in Crete. Luckily we found the right road, after all, though we arrived very late at the hotel.
From Palaichora we continued our route back to the Stavros (which is located next to the Chania) with a few stops at small villages like Kandanos. At Stavros, we booked a hotel and stayed for a couple of days. From Stavros, we continued our route to Triopetra.
From here on our route took us to the Heraklion, Rethymno, and surprisingly back to Agia Marina.
The fun fact from this trip - it turned out, we had 5 more days to spend in Crete (we discovered this just before heading to the airport, as it turned out we mismatched the flight dates - so yes 5 extra days in Crete were amazing)

Top hotels in Rustavi, Georgia
| Hotel reviews | 7 seen
Rustavi cannot be proud of having top luxury hotels, like the one you can find in Georgian resort towns of Bakuriani, Gudauri, Batumi or the nation's capital Tbilisi.
The reason probably is plain simple - the close distance to Tbilisi city. On the other hand, Rustavi is known for it's racing track and huge auto market. Many international travelers from neighboring countries of Armenia and Azerbaijan are coming here to buy used and new vehicles.

Tutarchela Megrelian Restaurant in Tbilisi
| Restaurant reviews | 17 seen
Restaurant Tutarchela is located on Archil Mishveladze street 76, Tbilisi, just next to the Vake Park.
I was a bit surprised to learn that here is served Megrelian cuisine, and should admit that Megrelian cuisine is as great as Georgian
According to the restaurant's FB page, there is served a wide selection of delicious Megrelian dishes, and for the preparation of all dishes, the restaurant uses natural products.
Anyhow, here is what we got
Elarji
Now, this was something new for me - at the start, it looked something like a Swiss fondue to me, then I thought it is Georgian Ghomi porridge. To learn this is actually a typical Megrelian food Elarji.
Elarji is a popular dish from Samegrelo region, made from coarse cornmeal, cornflour and Sulguni cheese.
Nadugi in Sulguni cheese plates
Another popular Georgian food - nadugi. Kind of one of my favorites.
Nadugi is a snack in the shape of sacks, made of thin sulguni cheese flat cakes with the filling of nadugi, light milk product with a delicate taste of cream, and mint.
How To Make Nadugi - Traditional Georgian Snack (Fresh Cheese With Mint)
Pork mcvadi
Our bill at Tutarchela around GEL 65. Tasty Megrelian cuisine, friendly staff. I will come here more. Highly recommended!

IWA Christmas Charity Fair Tbilisi 2018
| Living in Georgia | 7 seen
Annual Winter Fair (Christmas charity fair) was held at Tbilisi's Radisson Blue Hotel on December 1, 2018
For many expats in Georgia, it has been already a tradition to visit this fair year. For me, this was already some sixth or seventh fair (as a visitor), maybe I should start selling hot wine in the next years (who knows)
Here are a few articles from the past: Christmas Charity Fair Tbilisi 2017, Christmas Charity Winter Fair in Tbilisi 2015, Christmas Charity Winter Fair in Tbilisi Sheraton Hotel, Christmas charity fair in Tbilisi
As usual, I took my DSLR camera, backpack and went shopping (this year was special, as it was the first fair for our little daughter).
Fair is a great place to buy great things and let's believe to help charity, as all earnings made during this fair is believed to be donated to charity. It should, after all. Winter fair was organized by International Women's Association Georgia (IWAG)
Kid books at British embassy stand
Bought a few reading books for the little fella.
Candles for sale at Winter Fair
Seems from Greece stand. If you will look closely you will notice a little hand waving to the camera (to visitors actually) in the right bottom corner. That's the first time our little princess waived to someone.
Our basket of goods after this year's Charity fair in Tbilisi
For years, our favorite stand has been the embassy of the United States of America, but this year the UK won our hearts (because of the children books). The bottle bak by the UK this year was pretty lame, but that's fine. See you at 2019 fair.
November 2018 Dividend Income Report - $111.60
| Investments | 15 seen
Welcome to the nineteenth (#19) dividend income report, covering earnings I've made from dividend-paying stocks, peer to peer lending (both fiat and cryptocurrencies) in November 2018.
In case you are wondering why I'm sharing online my earnings - the answer is pretty simple - back in January 2017, I set a goal to reach one million dollars in my bank account by the time I will turn 60 (27, 26 years still to go). I believe in transparency and sharing dividend income reports every month helps me to observe my personal progress or bounces. Hopefully, those reports can give some inspiration to you as well. (If so, please leave a short comment below).
In short, last November was neither good nor bad, I managed to crack $100/mo milestone, and I hope I will never be under $100/mo. Anyhow last month dividend income doesn't impress me at all. That's how it works I believe. Greed. Greed is good!

In total there were 8 great companies paying us dividends in November, that's 5 companies more when compared to the November 2017.
The YoY growth rate for my dividend income in November is 119.90%. That is a USD 60.85 growth YOY.. Would love to see YOY rate at least USD 100, but I will take it.
Monthly income to the date
The cumulative earnings for 2018 now are at $1,306.26 which is exactly 108.86% from my goal of 2018 ($1200). Awesome I have beaten already y yearly goal and there is still one month till the end of the year. 2018 has been great for my dividend income.
2017 in Review and Financial Goals for 2018
Monthly Income chart as of November 2018
As I have already reached my yearly goal I will just enjoy a ride next month.
Goals for November 2019
This is my favorite part of the reports - trying to forecast/set goals for the next year. But before setting goals for November 2019 dividend income, let's see what I forecasted for this November a year ago:
If looking from today's perspective I cannot see making more than $70 a year later. Still, a year is a plenty of time, and I will stick with a more optimistic $100/mo for November 2018
Wow, I just did it, I crossed two milestones, which seemed like a mission impossible a year ago. That mostly thanks to the I have started to add to my portfolio monthly/ quarterly paying US stocks.
When setting goal/forecast for November 2019 I have a $180 goal for the next year. Again, from today's perspective, hard but doable. Let me explain- November is one of the slowest months in my portfolio, there are not many stocks paying me dividends in November. To get to the $180 goal, I should raise my dividend income by about $70 for next year. Hard, but doable.
Documentary "Inside Mao's China"
| Documentaries | 10 seen
A very interesting film by Martin Gronemeyer, telling a story about foreign expats in China during the cultural revolution.
The film tells a unique personal story combined with rare historical footage give a new perspective on Mao’s utopia.
At the height of Maoism, China was as closed off as present-day North Korea. Then as China eased out of its age of isolation in the early 1970's, Westerners equipped with government regulated narratives began to romanticize the new government. Only a small group of Westerners who grew up and lived inside Mao’s China witnessed first-hand the upheaval of the Cultural Revolution. Until now they had preferred to remain silent but armed with a new outlook on life they are committed to sharing their experiences without fear.
When the Westerners were finally granted permission to leave, they were shocked to find their peers in Europe cheering for the very dictator they had just fled. In this time young leftist activists In Western Europe idolized Mao as a harbinger of a utopian society. However, many Western Maoists who journeyed to China to enjoy the revolutionary tours often returned disillusioned or confused. Why? “Inside Mao’s China” tells the truth about this period of recent Chinese history. These ventures between cultures and political systems underscored by this film are among the few materials that can paint a true picture of life inside Mao’s China.
