Tourism objects

I travel frequently, in most cases equipped with DSLR camera, tripod and some spare lens. I love to photograph places I have visited, add them to the map, so not only me, but you too can benefit from my discoveries.

Abava Rumba Waterfall

Abava Rumba is the second widest waterfall in Latvia (after Venta Rumba) ,up to 1 m high and 35 m wide. I had a chance to visit it and spend some hour in lovely photography session at the end of May 2017, just after our Germany trip in the Mossel Valley. There is a camping area located just next to the rapid.  Abava Rumba in Latvia I find such places tranquil and quite inspiring for my photography.  Hiking trek near Abava Rumba As an active outdoors fan I could resist to...

3 day leisure trip to Germany (The Mossel Valley)

This is a round up post about our latest travel to Germany, at the end of May 2017. Our trip started at Dortmund airport, were we got a nice Nissan X-trail rental car from Hertz (about EUR 250 for 4 days). Although I've traveled to Germany countless times in the past, this is just third recap featured on blog, in fact about 2 years ago we made a similar trip to Germany but extended it it by visiting the Netherlands, see: My Germany and The Netherlands Travel Guide, also I briefly...

Cochem Imperial castle

The contours of the neo-gothic building rise more than about 330 ft above the river Moselle on an outstanding hill. The silhouette of the towering hill seems to continue in the building which is topped by the slate roof of the massive keep. As for its structure, Cochem Castle belongs to the category of castles protected by height that had to be protected all around. Romanesque fragments found in the well indicate a reinforcement of the castle around 1056. For the sake of this article, I must...

Eltz Castle

Eltz Castle (German: Burg Eltz) is a medieval castle nestled in the hills above the Moselle River between Koblenz and Trier, Germany. Monastery of Maria Engelport

The monastery of Maria Engelport (Kloster Maria Engelport) is located on the edge of the Hunsrück in the Flaumbach Valley near Treis-Karden, Germany.  We made here a briefly stop while traveling by car around these parts of Germany, it was overcast day, I was not in the mood for photography, just made some quick shots. Kloster Maria Engelport The following written is a rough translation from German using automatic Google translate: The monastery was...

Planing a trip to Greece: How to get a Prepaid SIM Card with Internet

I traveled to Greece for about 2 weeks in June 2017, our final destination was island of Crete. One of the reasons I was looking for prepaid sim card in Greece is simple - for navigation (Google maps helps a lot). From my previous experience with dealing with different sim cards in multiple European countries I already knew, it shouldn't be a problem to get one in Greece. Planing a Trip to Spain: How to Get a Prepaid SIM Card in Spain I planned to purchase whatever operators SIm card...

Porta Nigra in Trier

The Porta Nigra (Latin for black gate) is a large Roman city gate in Trier, Germany. It is today the largest Roman city gate north of the Alps. It is designated as part of the Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St. Peter and Church of Our Lady in Trier UNESCO World Heritage Site. Weekend trip to Telavi (Georgia) and Vicinty

This is a short recap article about our latest trip to the region of Kakheti in Western Georgia, during a weekend trip we stayed in a lovely Chataeu Mere hotel near Telavi and explored nearby vicinity. We did this trip as indie travelers, first booked hotel room, then contacted hotel and asked transfer service from our Tbilisi apartment to hotel (and back). For such transfer we paid GEL 70 (one way). Once at hotel (which cost to us about EUR 300 for 3 day stay) we ordered a local taxi service...

Peter's Market in Liepaja

Peter's market is centrally located on Kuršu street in Liepāja, Latvia. There are more than 200 sales outlets. It's the largest market in Liepaja and second largest in Latvia (after Riga Central market).  Make sure to visit Peter's market once in Liepāja. Although not so impressive than those in Philadelphia, Barcelona or Riga, it's still quite interesting place. I believe over the time Peter's market has potential to become one of the most visited tourism attractions in Liepāja....

Lopota lake Resort & Spa

Lopota Lake Resort & Spa is ideal for those seeking a peaceful place to rest. Your personal piece of paradise is located in the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia, surrounded by the famous Caucasus mountains, just 2 hours drive from Tbilisi, nations capital. My visit to Lopota lake was kind of accident in fact, let me explain, at the start of April we booked another hotel in Kakheti (Chateau Mere near Telavi). Unfortunately when we arrived on site, the weather was overcast and it was no fun...

Day trip to Gori and nearby vicinity

Day trips to Gori and nearby vicinity are quite possible if traveling from Tbilisi. Although not so popular as day trips to Mtskheta and Jvari (because located very close to Tbilisi) a trip to Gori and region (Shida Kartli) is a nice way to travel though the past.  It was at the end of March 2017, when my business partner (traveltogeorgia.net) agreed to show me some cool and unseen places in Gori and nearby vicinity One of the most famous landmarks in Gori is the Stalin Museum...

Sulfur bath house in Biisi, Georgia

Georgia is well known of it's sulfur bath houses, most recognized are located in the Tbilisi' s Old Town (see Abanotubani district), but there are more across country. One such is located in Biisi village (Shida Kartli region). I was taken here by a friend from traveltogeorgia.net after we visited Uplitsikhe cave town and Atenis Sioni at the end of March 2017 You won't find much comfort here, but if you love diggers stuff (and I do) or rough travel - Biisi is really cool and...

Ateni Sioni Church

The Ateni Sioni Church  is an early 7th-century Georgian Orthodox church in the village of Ateni, some 10 km (6.2 mi) south of the city of Gori, Georgia. It stands in a setting of the Tana River valley known not only for its historical monuments but also for its picturesque landscapes and wine. The name "Sioni" derives from Mount Zion at Jerusalem. I had a chance to visit Atenis Sioni first in March 2017, as my business partner...

Chateau Ateni (Winery in Georgia)

Here comes another interesting, though small winery I've visited here in Georgia. Meet Chateau Ateni near Gori. I was taken here in the frames of short day trip to Gori with my business partner David Gablishvili from Traveltogeorgia.net. Chateau Ateni is a small family run winery, offering to try local wine and famous Georgian hospitality. Located some 10km from Uplitisikhe cave town.  Chateau Ateni winery in Georgia As we visited this winery at the end of March it was still...

A short 10 day trip to the United States, visiting 3 states (New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania)  Long story short - I had to fly to the United States for one reason - opening a bank account (see: How To Open A Bank Account in U.S., As A Non-resident Non - citizen, Wells Fargo Bank), for the flight we decided to go with Ukrainian airlines from Tbilisi via Kiev to New York city (see: About Tbilisi - Kiev - New York Flight by Ukrainian Airlines)  Unplanned flight delay in...

The Empire State Building & Observation Deck Tour

OK, this finally is off from my bucket list. Here is the tip I would give to myself - buy "skip the lines" tickets to avoid long hours waiting in the lanes.  it started to remind me my dear Georgia after the second hour of waiting in the lanes and hugging with Italian family to sing Bella Ciao. Amazing. Paid a visit to the Empire State Building, January 5, 2017 The Empire State Building is a 102-story skyscraper located on Fifth Avenue between West 33rd...

Hiking Route in Georgia - Norio Village - Martkopi Monastery

Hiking from Norio village to Martkopi monastery is about 10km long distance (forth and back), best done in Spring, Summer or early Autumn. The route is pretty steep, though covered with asphalt, there are parts of damaged surface and some agility is needed.  The route offers kind of Wilderness in Georgia views, with ruined bridge, tumble asphalt, livestock with a really nice Martkopi monastery at the end of the route. Tip: You could get to the Norio village just for 1.5...

Martkopi monastery

Martkopi monastery complex is located some 30km from Tbilisi, Georgia. I first visited it at the end of February 2017 with one goal - to make a stunning photography, as I've seen some really nice shoots from this place, the truth turned out to be a little bit complicated, it took us about 5km hinking (each way) from Norio village, and once on site I did find it hard to make that stunning photography. But here is what I think could work - there is another tower a top of Martkopi monastery...

The Chronicle of Georgia, Monument Near Tbilisi Sea

The Chronicle of Georgia, also called History Memorial of Georgia is one of the hidden gems of Tbilisi. Not at all a popular tourist spot, but definitely one of the impressive sites I have discovered lately. Located near the Tbilisi sea (it's a water reservoir actually) this place not only tells history of Georgia, but gives really spectacular views to surrounding vicinity. And impresses of it's size. On a lovely Sunday's afternoon I packed my camera and tripod, ordered a taxi using...

Champions Academy Tbilisi

Champions Academy in Tbilisi is a gym/ fitness / crossfit training facility, located on a 4-storey building on David Agmanashebeli avenue.  I've enrolled at Champions Academy at the start of February 2017, with a goal to train my heart using cardio vascular trainings, also I'm using a little bit weight lifting and some crossfit workouts.  The gym seem to be open starting 7:00 AM, which is great because of two reasons - first I love to exercise in the mornings, and second...

Former Archaeological Museum Building in Tbilisi

Former Archeological Museum Building in Tbilisi is a great example of the Soviet architecture in Georgia. I had a chance to discover this place and explore surrounding area, first time in February 2017, thanks to the Tbilisi Soviet Architecure tours organized by Brutal Tours: See: Brutal Tours - Explore Soviet Georgian Architecture in Tbilisi The museum was established in 1988 by the well-known Georgian archeologist, head of the Tbilisi archeological expedition, Rostom...

Brutal Tours - Explore Soviet Georgian Architecture in Tbilisi

A while ago with a friend of mine (another expat in Georgia) we started an online community on Facebook: Georgia Expat Photographer club. In matter of no time we gathered a critical member count and were looking to start offering some day trips in Tbilisi or Georgia, helping other photographers explore interesting and cool sites for a free or minimum charge. Like organizing these trips by ourselves between club members, kind of crowd funding for photographer travelers. Learn...
