Kvareli Lake Resort
| Lakes | 13 seen
Kvareli lake resort is located in the heart of Kakheti, one of the most beautiful regions of Georgia and to the east of the small city Kvareli, beneath the southern slope of Great Caucasus mountains.
The unique and beautiful Kvareli Lake Resort spreads over 300 hectares of beautiful natural landscape. There is located a hotel and restaurant at resort territory.
We headed here just to enjoy a cup of coffee with a beautiful view in mid-September 2017. I must say, if I had to choose a leisure accommodation in Kakheti, I would recommend choosing from Royal Batoni, Lopota lake or Kvareli lake resort. All of them offers excellent lake views.
Kvareli lake resort
Featuring a full spa and wellness centre, this hotel is nestled between the Kvareli Lake and the Alazany Valley.
Guests are welcome to dine in the hotel restaurant and half-board options are available. Additionally, there is a bar on site as well as barbecue facilities and vending machines.
Guests can relax in the outdoor pool or make use of the fitness centre. Alternatively, hiking and fishing are popular in the area. Guests can borrow bikes from Kvareli Lake Resort free of charge.
The virgin forest surrounding the resort, the lake in the front where the small rivers of Bursa and Chagurgula flow into, vast Alazani valley in the backyard and large hotel rooms each equipped with small terrace and beautiful panoramic views, make Kvareli Lake Resort a unique place to stay.
Alaverdi Monastery in Georgia
| Churches and Monasteries | 26 seen
Alaverdi Monastery is a Georgian Eastern Orthodox monastery located 25 km from Akhmeta, in the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia.
While parts of the monastery date back to 6th century, the present-day cathedral was built in the 11th century by Kvirike III of Kakheti, replacing an older church of St. George.
Despite being on my travel bucket list in Georgia for a very long time, I first visited it in the middle of September 2017, during a two-day trip to Kakheti. See: Day Trip to Kakheti in Georgia
Alaverdi Monastery in Georgia
The monastery was founded by the Assyrian monk Joseph (Yoseb, Amba) Alaverdeli, who came from Antioch and settled in Alaverdi, then a small village and former pagan religious center dedicated to the Moon. At a height of over 55 meters, Alaverdi Cathedral is the second tallest religious building in Georgia, after Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi, which was consecrated in 2004.
Its overall size is also smaller than the cathedral of Svetitskhoveli in Mtskheta. The monastery is the focus of the annual religious celebration Alaverdoba. Situated in the heart of the world's oldest wine region, the monks also make their own wine, known as Alaverdi Monastery Cellar.

Home Remodeling - Season 3 (2017)
| Home Remodeling | 6 seen
We had some great plans for this Summer's home remodeling works, unfortunately, we faced some obstacles, and decided to stop any further home remodeling works for this year.
Despite being pretty upset about our situation, we still enjoyed a great Summer at our rural country property.
Here I'm adding pictures, how it all looked in April 2017, make sure to check out how it all started, and see previous years start of the season.
Let's start with one of the biggest pride - the freshly dug pond in the front of the house
Pond in April 2017
Amazing, it is full with water. See how we waited for water level to rise, last autumn: Waiting For The Water Level Rising In The Pond
View towards house
It was planned to grow strawberries in this field for this Summer (see: Planting Strawberry Plants In Fall ) but at the end, we made a garden with potatoes, cabbages, beets and other vegetables here, see: Autumn Harvest in The Garden.

Rose Garden 'Dailas Rozes' near Tukums in Latvia
| Farms | 12 seen
We received a special request, from a special person, to deliver park rose Rītausma, which could translate as Dawn in English.
Rītausma is a local, Latvia selected park rose breed. To get one (seedling price was about EUR 5), we had to cross half of the country, to find this special, precious rose at Dailas Rozes, located in Sēme parish, some 5km from Tukums.
After spending an hour at Dailas Rozes park, I felt impressed, made a few photos here and would highly recommend this place to all rose lovers.
Rozītes
Dailas Rozes is located in Rozītes, Sēme parish, Tukums district, Latvia. We did find problematic to find this place, but for that, I've added coordinates (at the end of this article)
Rose nursery
Pretty cool glass house construction, I would love to have such at our rural country house some day.

Excellent.
Autumn Harvest in The Garden

Back at our rural country house in Latvia, we have a pretty international garden, plants, and flowers from different countries across the world, so, for example, we have a tulip bulbs from the Netherlands, cabbage seeds from the United States of America, some lichens from Georgia, and of course traditional Latvian plants.
It was at the end of August 2017, we decided it's the right time to harvest the crop, we planted back in Spring.
In today's Piece of Lifes series - Autumn Harvest 2017
Garden
Today we will dig potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, and cut cabbages
See, how we made this garden a year ago using ground tiller: Ground Milling With A Tiller
Chrysanthemums
I'm bad at flowers, but these ones look the chrysanthemums to me
Harvest of potatoes and onions
I agree, not many potatoes for upcoming winter, but plenty of onions
Another flower
As said, I'mbad at recognizing them, but these cuties, we probably bought back in The Netherlands Keukenhoff garden. See: Keukenhof Tulip (Flower) Garden in Netherlands

How I Made $2,135.03 with Google AdSense in 8 years
| Blogging | 5 seen
Wow, it has been already 8 years, since I've been using Google AdSense to monetize online content. Amazing how fast time flies - It was at late night of September 4th, 2009, when I finally decided to give it a try for Google AdSense.
You know what's more amazing? Half of that amount I made in the last year alone. See: How I Made $1,000 with Google AdSense in 7 years
Back then, 8 years ago, I had a dozen of "web-projects", mostly powered by WordPress, I was exploring different niches and put a lot of time and energy in too many directions. I decided to try to monetize my efforts - and of course, I was thinking - I will make those million dollars overnight. I didn't. Actually, my most valuable asset back at those days generated me just about 6,000 monthly users (monthly, not daily). I made about four dollars in the first month, and maybe $10 four months later.
Soon I stopped my huge efforts on building the next big thing, and AdSense dollars stopped rolling in at all. From 2011 until the end of 2013 I was not using Google AdSense actively (from reports I can see, I have made a dollar, or two, maybe four dollars per month in some of the months during that period).
In October 2013 (that's about 3 years ago), I decided to stop spreading my efforts on many smaller projects and launched simple, personal blog, the one you are currently reading. See: It's official now - domain name ReinisFischer.com is on
Most of the money I have made with Google AdSense I have made with this blog in a period 2014 - 2017. With the last year being the top performing (about half or $1,044.36). My blog currently receives about 100,000 monthly users. That has been a huge leap over the years.
I have no clue where the next year will take me, but it would be awesome to double earnings from Google AdSense, and at the end of the 9th year to report - $4,000.

One of The Best Traditional Cretan Restaurants - Gramvousa in Kaliviani
| Restaurant reviews | 85 seen
There is another clear winner in my top restaurant list - Gramvousa Restaurant in the small Cretan village Kaliviani. Discovered by the accident, during our travels in Crete at the start of June 2017.
We headed here after failed attempt to reach Balos beach in the nearby vicinity, see: Discoveries in Crete - Rough Road To Balos Beach
Right now it's hard to remember where did we actually headed, but we were driving through this small village, just later we learned the name of it - Kaliviani. As it was afternoon already, we just looked for some lovely roadside restaurants, and here it was - Gramvousa Traditional Cretan Restaurant.
Gramvousa Traditional Cretan Restaurant
As it was afternoon, we didn't find a problem to find a free table here, but I believe in the evenings it might be a problem. The kind waiter showed us a lovely, remote table and gave a free ouzo drink. As I was already offered free ouzo a couple of evenings before back in Chania, I finally get it - free ouzo for everyone. See: Taverna En Plo in Chania
Ouzo drink
As neither of us loves such strong drinks, we didn't try it, just made a photo for a memory.
Now it was time for our orders, and I was indeed surprised trying something special - Cretan Cuisine, I opted for a goat meat in wine served Cretan Spaghetti
Cretan cuisine - goat meat in a wine sauce
This was probably the first time I tried goat meat - it was delicious, well done.
Greek Salads
Now, that's what I'm calling real Greek salads.
Last, but not least - free fruit plate for everyone
Free fruit plate at Gramvousa
Restaurant Gramvousa was an excellent choice, and if I may, I would love to compare food experience here with the Meson del Asador Restaurant in Spain's Jerez de la Frontera
Discoveries in Crete - Rough Road To Balos Beach
| Tourism objects | 40 seen
Balos Beach & Lagoon have been listed as one of the TOP 10 Best Europe's Beaches in 2017 according to Trip Advisor. We didn't know that yet when planned our trip here with a rental car we took earlier this morning at Agia Marina beach.
This was indeed a beautiful trip, kind of reminded me the one we did about a year ago in Spain's region of Andalusia, see: In The Searches For El Torcal - Wilderness in SpainTorcal - Wilderness in Spain
Also, I should admit we didn't reach Balos beach after all, as the road to there was indeed rough, and once we were at the final parking space it turned out that we should walk for some 15-20 minutes more and there were zillions of tourists, idea didn't sound great, as there are plenty of more cool beaches in Crete and shortly before reaching destination, we turned our car back and returned back.
We started our drive to Balos beach from Mavros Molos Beach near Kissamos and navigated there by using Google Maps.
Entering Gramvousa - Balos Peninsula Protected area
Signboard saying:
Welcome to Gramvousa-Balos peninsula, natura protected area. We inform you, that as decided by the Municipality os Kisamos, and approved by the region of Crete, a toll fee 1 euro (per person) is collected for the purpose of guarding, maintenance and garbage disposal from the area.
The above fee is collected at the entrance of the protected area, at 5 km.
Goats
A lot of goats on this road actually, steep climbing and pretty friendly, you can make a photo - not a problem
Rough road to Balos beach in Crete
Ain't no fun driving here, complete offroad driving!
Almost there
As you can see, there is a trail with a parking lot at the end of it, and a lot of cars there already. We turned back at this point.
August 2017 Dividend Income Report - $40.43
| Investments | 11 seen
Welcome to the fourth (#4) dividend income report, covering earnings I've made from dividend paying stocks, peer to peer lending (both fiat and crypto currencies) in August 2017.
If you are new to these dividend income reports, where I'm sharing my progress towards financial freedom, here is a backstory in short - I started my wealth building adventure (portfolio) in January 2017 with a simple goal to invest $8,561 this year in several batches. First months of the year didn't generate me anything much, but starting May it has started slowly pick up.
Last August, I turned 32, we headed to Kiev, Ukraine to celebrate it for a couple of days. As I've reached the age of 32, it means I will put aside at least 32% of my yearly income, in fact, I have thought on this a lot and with the next year, I'm planning to adjust this ratio to years + 10. As I'm 32 now, it means for the next financial year (2018) I'm aiming to put aside 42% from my yearly income, as right now I believe in a more aggressive saving approach, if I want to get to the 1 million dollar milestone by 2045.
Now, when speaking about August - in fact, there was no dividend paying stocks in my portfolio for the last month, technically speaking I received zero dividend payments. On the other hand, I did get payments from investments in peer to peer lending (Mintos.com) and crypto lending (Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ripple on Poloniex.com lending)
About Portfolio in August 2017
My investments right now are spread across a few different investment types - stocks, peer-to-peer lending, mutual funds, cash, and crypto currencies. The vast majority remains invested in Nasdaq Baltics and Mintos.com peer to peer lending loans (in EUR and GEL currencies)
For the sake of this and all future dividend income articles, I've converted all final/total currencies to the US dollar, although currently there are just crypto currency investments from my portfolio in US dollars.
At the end of August, I've invested in total $8,565.57 what exceeds my 2017 goal by $4.57 an equals to 100.05% from this year's planned investments. Also, I've reached 0.89% from my ultimate one million dollar goal by the time I will turn 60 (in 2045)
Net Worth August 2017
For the past 8 months, it has been a steady value growth resulting in a total of +4.17% value growth for the entire portfolio at the end of August. Here is the breakdown by positions:
- Mintos.com peer to peer lending: -0.99%
- Stocks: +4.10%
- Mutual funds: +2.22%
- Crypto investments: +50.40%
Despite mintos.com being the top performer in terms of dividend growth (loan repayments) in August, the total value of it decreased, and here is why - Georgian Lari currency lost its value against EUR. This is the thing that worries me a lot, as Lari has been a troubled currency for the last 3 years already (at least). See: My Savings Report January 2015 - GEL Loses its Value Against USD For 14% Since September
Despite, there was no dividend paying stocks in my portfolio last month, it made a nice value growth.
Now, the biggest surprise this month come with investments in Crypto currencies - more than 50% value growth here, gave a lovely boost this month, despite being on of the smallest positions in portfolio
Investment portfolio August 2017
About Investments in August 2017
Last month I invested additional
- Nasdaq Baltics stock market: EUR 627
- Cash: EUR 45.6
- Crypto currencies: EUR 175
- Mintos.com marketplace: EUR 343.90
Total investment = EUR 1191.5
From money invested in Baltic equity market I bought following shares:
- OlainFarm (OLF1R) - 55 Shares
Though, not very enthusiastic about this purchase, I bought it for simple reason - it promises dividend payments in September and December
Interest Income in August 2017
From investments in peer to peer lending marketplace Mintos.com and from crypto currency lending on Poloniex.com I got following income last month:
- Mintos.com: EUR 34.35
- Poloniex.com: EUR 0.79
Total: EUR 35.14 / USD 40.43
Monthly Income to the date
During past eight months, dividend income from my portfolio have produced a whopping $311.56, or 3.63% year to date yield
Monthly income chart August 2017
As you can see from the graph above, last July has been the best in terms of dividend and interest payments so far.
Right now it looks I won't crack $100 anytime soon and if, then most probably in December, as I already hold few stocks with historical dividend payments in December.
Goals for August 2018 Dividend Income
A year from now I'm looking for a minimum of $100 dividend income in August 2018.
Mavros Molos Beach near Kissamos, Crete
| Tourism objects | 33 seen
Mavros Molos beach is a quiet and kind of remote, tourist unspoiled beach located near Kissamos, some 40km from Chania.
We made here a short stop during our Crete exploring trip back in June 2017
Mavros Molos Beach is the largest beach in Kissamos (Kastelli) itself, with fine sand and relatively shallow water.
Mavros Molos beach near Kissamos, Crete
Mavros Molos beach is at the west end of town, right in front of the restaurants and tavernas, and is fully organized with umbrellas and loungers. There are hotels and apartments for rent on the beach.

Indeed, during our short, I would say, a 5-minute stay at this beach, we didn't met any vacationers - here you go - a quiet, unspoiled beach in a short distance from Chania

| Hotel reviews | 81 seen
For a luxury stay in Istanbul, you will find a wide selection of top World brand hotels, Sheraton, Hilton, Kempinski, Four Seasons, Hyatt you name it. a
From my personal experience, I've stayed at a dozen of Istanbul's boutique hotels in a price range USD 60-100, with Dosso Dossi Istanbul Old City Hotel located in Sultanahmet, being the latest. Make sure you check out article What to do and see in Istanbul in less than 24 hours if you are traveling to Istanbul for the first time. Also, I should add, back in 2013, when traveling from Houston to Riga, via Istanbul with Turkish Airlines, and since time between connecting flight was more than 24 hours, we got a free night at Sheraton Grand Istanbul Atasehir, which was a nice stay, not centrally located, but still a great perk from Turkish Airlines, with a free shuttle service to the airport in the next morning.
5-star hotels in Istanbul will vary in price range starting USD 100, for lower end 5-star hotels and up to USD 550 for a real luxury stay. No matter which one you will chose you - knowing Turkish hospitality you will get what you paid for.
That said - here is the list with TOP 20 5-star hotels in Istanbul, Turkey, according to actual user reviews on Booking.com.

Cafe Mixail Malandrakis in Kalydonia, Crete
| Restaurant reviews | 13 seen
Cafe Mixail Malandrakis is located in a small village of Kalydonia, Crete in distance some 25km from Chania town.
We discovered this place by accident, when, after checking out from a hotel room in Agia Marina (see: Vergina Beach Hotel Review, Agia Marina, Crete), took a rental car and decided to head in the direction towards Kissamos. it was still quite early, and we decided it would be a very good idea to have some morning coffee.
As usual, it happens with such lovely roadsides cafeterias, at least for me, it always involves a lot of research work after, to find coordinates, names e.t.c to put this place on my World travel map. This time it involved usage of Greek transliteration (http://gr.translit.cc/), of course, Google Translate, but what makes it special this time, I used a phone book (http://www.locatefamily.com/Street-Lists/Greece/KOLYMVARI-2.html) to find the location of this place and finally make sure, that it probably would be best named in English - Mikhail Malandrakis Bed & Breakfast. As it took some research to get what could possibly "To Mpenteni" (το μπεντεν) means, and just with help of Google Translate I realized it means - beds.
Now, once we are ready with the technical background, let's return to this lovely roadside cafeteria in Kalydonia.
Cafe Mixail Malandrakis in Kalydonia, Crete
Kind of, nothing special, just another roadside cafeteria, I agree. But, here comes real authentic Cretan cuisine and hospitality. (OK, we didn't try it here, as we were stopping here just because of coffee). Cup of frappe here? 1 EUR. And that's just 25km from Chania. Real life, real cafeteria, not especially catered for zillions of tourists.
Kind owner, I assume Mrs. Mikhail Malandrakis, speaks a little bit English, he kindly agreed to make 2 frappes for us, and for a surprise, as a complimentary gift gave us local Greek cheese (damn that was one tasty fresh cheese)

Wandering In The Woods B&W Photography
| | 6 seen
For the second year in the row I agreed to go to the same forest and harvest mushrooms, instead of a catch of forest goodies, I spent a few days finding interesting, eye catching elements in the woods.
Don't get me wrong, I did find some forest mushrooms (eatable), but compared to previous year's experience this was nothing much. See the same forest a year ago: Deep in the Forest, also see: Forest Mushrooms - Penny Bun & Red-Capped Scaber Stalk
I did find it interesting, once in the woods, for reason or not I tend to photograph with wide open aperture, probably because of limited light, but usually, I prefer tack sharp over bokeh. Once our forest wanderings were over, when post processing in Adobe Lightroom, again, for reason or not - I did find it should be awesome to feature this story from the woods as a Black & White Photography.

By the way, we love gathering mushrooms and we are doing that even in Georgia, see: Harvesting Mushrooms in Georgia

It was hard to spot any forest mushrooms here, but after all, we got some chanterelles.
