0 DTE SPX Trading Challenge

Published: 31 December, 2019 seen 1,540 Trading

I've been trading options since March 2019, I have been trading verticals since September 2019. Option trading is not easy, it can hurt. Money can be made and more money can be lost - been there seen that. In my short options trader career I have tried naked puts, covered calls, futures, indexes - a lot has been learned and a lot is still to be learned. I prefer learning through practice, and that's how 0 DTE SPX Trading Challenge was born. I like 0 DTE over longer-term options - money is made (or lost) during the trading day, less time in the trade, less stress. Actually the potential return…

Trading Results Week 52/2019 (+$201.50)

Published: 30 December, 2019 seen 24 Trading

Trading week 52/2019 was from December 23 until December 27, 2019 (Monday - Friday). During the week there were the Christmas holidays, and I was not really in trading this week. Anyway, I opened one iron condor for 45 DTE SPX and bull put on GC (90 DTE). Gross income from these trades is $667.40. From closed trades this week I made $201.50, by closing one ES trade and expiring GC. Quite a good result I believe.  Week 14 trading results I have decided to start over with a new trading challenge in 2020, mostly because I have changed how I calculate profit/ loss. With that said - have a…

Lecco town in Italy

Lecco is a small city in northern Italy, some  50 kilometers (31 mi) north of Milan. The city lies at the end of the south-eastern branch of Lake Como. The Bergamo Alps rise to the north and east, cut through by the Valsassina of which Lecco marks the southern end. We visited the town of Lecco for a couple of hours in mid-November 2019, during a week trip to Italy/Switzerland. Really stunning. Como lake near Lecco The lake narrows to form the river Adda, so bridges were built to improve road communications with Como and Milan. There are four bridges crossing the river Adda in Lecco: the …

On December 19, 2019, I bought  (got assigned) 100 shares of PennantPark Investment Corp. (PNNT ) at $7.50 per share.  With its quarterly dividend payout of 0.18 dollars per share (before tax), this latest buy has a dividend yield of 9.6% and will pay us an additional $18 every quarter. Awesome! PNNT is paying the dividend in the following months: January, April, July, and October This is already the third time I'm buying PNNT stocks, I first bought PNNT back in September 2018, and then in May 2019 The latest buy actually comes from my options trades, back in July I made in the money (ITM) …

On November 21, 2019, I sold all 1,000 shares of Energijos skirstymo operatorius I had, getting EUR 0.79 per share, to finance the purchase of US stocks. Energijos skirstymo operatorius has been in my portfolio since  2017. Unlike the most of the Nasdaq Baltic listed companies Energijos skirstymo operatorius paid bi-annual dividend Energijos skirstymo operatorius was neither a good nor a bad investment. After holding it for about 2 years. I have made a very tiny profit from dividends, but the value invested has decreased. The good news probably is that I won't need to pay any tax on this…

How to Setup Charts with Interactive Brokers

Published: 24 December, 2019 seen 1,800 Trading

This is a quick tutorial on how to setup / enable charts in Interactive Brokers to trade stocks, ETFs, indexes e.t.c. For the last couple of months I've been trading 0 DTE SPX, for charting using either Google Finance or Trading view - both are great to get a basic view on what's happening. Google charts are indeed great to follow up on what's happening, while Tradingview offers some customization, like to add RSI and many other indicators. But as I'm using TWS platform form Interactive Brokers (Lynx Broker) I decided there should be an easier and more native wat to do charting inside the TWS…

Trading week 51/2019 was from December 16 until December 20, 2019 (Monday - Friday). The original plan was to sell only 0 DTE SPX trades on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, which I did, but last week there was one more trading day on Thursday  which turned out almost a catastrophe, but thanks to the friend a mentor we not only avoided huge loss but gained some new and valuable knowledge on how to use futures to hedge SPX This week I sold 4 SPX 0 DTE trades and bought one ES call future to hedge against suffering SPX trade. Also I made some dumb mistake on Friday and wiped all earnings from this…

Tori 'Cafe-Restaurant' near Akhaldaba

Tori is a small roadside cafeteria located near the town of Akhaldaba. We have made a stop and dinned here at the end of June when traveling to Borjomi Cafe Tori Restaurant Well, what can I say about this place? A typical roadside cafeteria, you can get here some coffee and decent food. Prices seemed kind of expensive, maybe because the cafe is located on a pretty touristic route close to Borjomi. Road to Borjomi There is free parking available in front of the restaurant. A decent place to take a break from the road.

I remember I bought it while sipping cocktails on a lovely balcony in Crete, Greece Ekspress Grupp was neither a good nor a bad investment. After holding it for about 2 years I lost about 30% in value, but as my holdings here were rather small - nothing to complain much about. Ekspress Grupp cut the dividend to 0 in 2019, and taking that in consideration was a candidate to sell-off. Trading week 50/2019 was from December 9 until December 13, 2019 (Monday - Friday). This week I was on travel but managed to make a slim profit. Last week I made 3 short term trades - one for GC futures and two 0DTE SPX. All three were winning trades. Week 12 trading results It feels good to be back on the positive earnings side.  If I would continue getting $93.40 each week for the next 40 weeks it would translate into +$3,736 at the end. Not much, but still acceptable. Looking to trade 0DTE SPX next week. The goal is to collect at least $100 in premiums.

Selling Covered Calls: ITM vs OTM

Published: 13 December, 2019 seen 920 Trading

Selling covered calls has been one of my favorite options trading strategies. A covered call refers to a transaction in the financial market in which the investor selling call options owns the equivalent amount of the underlying security. To execute this an investor holding a long position in an asset then writes (sells) call options on that same asset to generate an income stream. The investor's long position in the asset is the "cover" because it means the seller can deliver the shares if the buyer of the call option chooses to exercise. If the investor simultaneously buys stock and writes…
