This time, our destination was the mesmerizing Tsalka Lake and Dashbashi Canyon, where nature's beauty unfolds in every corner. From hyper-lapses over the tranquil lake to an adrenaline-pumping drone flight over a 240-meter long glass bridge, this weekend was truly one for the books. Fasten your seatbelts, and let's dive into the magic of Tsalka and Dashbashi!

Our journey began at Tsalka Lake, a hidden gem surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery. The calm waters mirrored the clear blue sky, creating a serene atmosphere that instantly transported us away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. A-frame houses dotted the landscape, offering a picturesque backdrop for our weekend retreat.

To capture the essence of Tsalka Lake, we embarked on a mesmerizing journey through time with hyper-lapses. The changing hues of the sky, the gentle ripples of the lake, and the play of sunlight on the water – each frame told a unique story of nature's poetry. The resulting footage is a visual symphony that we can now revisit and share with fellow nature enthusiasts.

Next on our itinerary was Dashbashi Canyon, a natural wonder that promised excitement…

Notes from Tbilisi - Crypto Club, Learning Spanish, Could Bitcoin crash $25,000

| Living in Georgia | 8 seen

Yesterday I visited the crypto club event at Local Tbilisi. Met a bunch of smart guys, mostly expats, was fun to watch bitcoin love/hate talks, listened to stories about investing in alt-coins. Been there, and seen that.

As you might already know - I'm neutral on crypto, neither bullish nor bearish. Prefer to trade Bitcoin futures.

With a smile, listened to the crypto talks about where should bitcoin go next, some saying bitcoin will have support at $20,000 some said at $18,000. nevertheless, most of the crypto enthusiasts didn't care about the bitcoin price dropping, as seems they are hodlers or not investing in Bitcoin at all but in some altcoins.

Belgian guy made a lot of sense, saying bitcoin is open source, vs the rest are just commercial pump and dumps. Makes sense to me.

Too many talks about some Luna coin, which crashed during our meeting. It seemed that most of the crypto enthusiasts believe in crypto taking over the world by storm. Anyhow, I left the meeting with some food for thought.

Today we had our first Spanish lesson for a kiddo with teacher Eva (Latvian in Tbilisi), she has worked at QSI…

Batumi - city with inspiring Architecture

| | 7 seen

I love visiting Batumi once or twice per year, preferably in Spring / Summer season. Back in 2012, we even lived in Batumi for some 6 months.

We were renting a small soviet time apartment in the city center (next to Radisson Batumi) for about $400/mo and enjoyed walking around the city wandering with many new and exciting buildings.

What I always love about Batumi - is the never-ending and booming real estate with many great architectural buildings.

Notes from Tbilisi - Gym, BitcoinGeorgia.Ge, Georgian for Expats and Bitcoin dips under $32,000

| Living in Georgia | 9 seen

Wow, what a day it was today - stock futures were opening lower, quite lower, Dow Jones index was failing more than 400 points, extending the stock market bleeding for some sixth or seventh week in a row.

I was holding several long bitcoin positions on Deribit with strike prices above $40,000, and the losses just kept accelerating, to keep my positions above the water I bought more bitcoin and deposited them on Deribit.

Bitcoin is not for all. Bitcoin futures, definitely are for a few select ones.

Went to the Champions academy for some cardio and dumbell workout. Later worked on my latest brainchild - BitcoinGeorgia.ge (more on that in some of the other blog posts.

In the evening we had our second lesson for Georgian for expats, this time Gvantsa took us shopping to the AgroHub and we had a chance to practice our Georgian.

The rest of the evening I spent gazing a the bitcoin charts, praying it doesn't fall under $30,000 tonight

What a day!

How to Place a Stop Loss Order on Coinbase Pro

| Crypto | 278 seen

For most of the time, I have been using a Coinbase Pro account just to buy and hold Bitcoin once a week. Just recently I started thinking about trading Bitcoin more frequently - like a couple of times per day using trade signals like Moving Averages with Golden and Death Cross.

The idea is quite simple - Once there is a trade signal indicating a buy - I will manually buy Bitcoin, to protect myself I want to set a stop loss of about 1% under my bought price. In case of trends reverse, I’m protected and don’t blow my account.

As an active stock trader I know pretty well the concept of stop losses, but working on a new platform there is always some learning curve involved in understanding the platform itself, so I was familiarizing myself with the Coinbase Pro platform and was looking how to place a stop-loss order, luckily I found this awesome article to kickstart my learning curve

To place a stop-loss order, you’ll need to have an open position. Change the order type from Buy to Sell and select the Stop tab. You will see three fields, and here’s what they mean:

Weekend trip to Batumi from Tbilisi by Train

| Travel guides | 12 seen

In this article, I will share notes and points of interest from our latest trip to Batumi during the Orthodox Easter 2022.

We were traveling from Tbilisi Railway station by train, paying GEL 25 for a seat in second class (The price for the seat in first class was GEL 60, business class GEL 100). Comfortable 2-story Swiss-built Stadler train, the total travel time about 6 hours. Just a few stops - Tbilisi - Ureki, Kobuleti, Batumi.

Batumi railway station is not located in the city center, so we took a Taxi (Bolt app) and paid about 5-6 GEL for a transfer to our hotel near the Boulevard. We chose to stay at Best Western Premium hotel, which is located out of the city center but offered a king-size bed with an additional bed for our daughter, free breakfast, and access to the heated indoor swimming pool for just GEL 200/ per night. In total paying GEL 800 for a 4-night stay here.

Originally I had an idea to hire some local driver and explorer the Khulo area and Chakvi (I wanted to film tea plantations), but in the end, we decides to take it easy and enjoy our swimming pool, trade some stocks and bitcoin futures from the hotel room. Which I in fact enjoyed.…

High Risk / High Return Investment Opportunity in Batumi Real Estate

| Real Estate | 91 seen

After spending a weekend in Batumi I decided to take a closer look at the booming, but somehow stagnating Batumi real estate market.

At the start, I couldn't believe that there are real estate offers starting $750 per square meter. Now I have a feeling if I would look more carefully, and bargain a bit I could get something even for $500 in the new development projects.

After contacting a few real estate developers in Batumi I was getting quite interested in buying an apartment under construction to sell once finished.

Here I made a YouTube video: Invest in Batumi real estate in Georgia?

I got a few offers, from several companies, and I focused on a small studio 26.6 m2 apartment with a price of $680/m2, with a downpayment of 30% and the rest in 24 months.

The total cost would be $18,088 once finished. For me, it doesn't seem much for an apartment, yes small, but an apartment in a seaside resort. And I believe I could sell it at $25,000 - $30,000 if there are buyers, or in the worst case to let it out. The only problem - there are zillions of such…

Batumi Central Park / 6th May park

| Tourism objects | 35 seen

Batumi Central park is really cool and relaxing attraction with a huge lake in the middle located in front of the Hilton Hotel.

It's said that the park/garden is more than 130 years old and was constructed together with Batumi boulevard back in 1881.

Despite I've visited Batumi zillions of times, I even have lived there some 10 years ago, this was the first time me visiting this park. Indeed very nice, with a little nice mini-zoo inside

6 May Park of Batumi is an ancient garden in Georgia. It has more than 130 years of history. The park was constructed in 1881 under the direction of gardener Ressler.

In 1885, for the park’s and boulevard's reconstruction works, famous Franch gardener Michael Dalfonse was invited. The total area of the park’s territory was 78 000 square meters for this period of time. Concerning the garden, it was named Alexander’s Garden, in honor of the  Imperator of Russia. In 1932, the garden was reconstructed as a cultural and recreational park, in 1933 as a park for kids, later on as a pioneers’ camp, and since 2006 its name is 6 May Park.

Best Western Premier Batumi Hotel

| Hotel reviews | 28 seen

Best Western Premier Batumi hotel is one of our best finds in Batumi, the price corresponds to the service. Budget-friendly 4-star hotel with a swimming pool.

I booked this hotel directly by calling to the reception instead booking online and got a very nice offer - 800 GEL for 4 nights with breakfast included and additional head for our 3-year old kiddo. I think we saved at least 500-600 GEL. Quite nice. If you prefer online booking, here is my shame affiliate link: Book now

Not centrally located, but taxis are quite affordable in Batumi, literally we spent about 2-3 GEL for getting to the city center and GEL 8-10 to getting to Batumi botanical garden with Bolt taxi. Very affordable.

This property is 2 minutes walk from the beach. Best Western Premier Batumi in Batumi features a terrace. The property is close to Dolphinarium, Batumi Archeological Museum and Holy Mother Virgins Nativity Cathedral. Europe Square is a 19-minute walk from the hotel.

For years I've been against real estate investments, as I have never really understood them, or they have seemed out of the reach because of the high price attached. Instead, I prefer the stock market and bitcoin.

Let's say I invest in what I understand. I cannot say I understand the stock market 100%, even less for cryptocurrencies, but at least I know how to make money out of them

Batumi Real Estate Crypto Investment

Real estate for profit-generating seems - way too complicated to me, and as long you haven't inherited some nice flat in a prime location, I don't see the point in buying it to let it out on Airbnb. By the way, a few weeks ago I met a girl in Tbilisi, she is doing the Airbnb thing in Tbilisi - she said, she can generate 100% return from her investment, which seems outstanding.

Anyhow, back to real estate in Batumi

The real estate market is booming in Batumi, at least for the past 10 years. Back in 2012, we lived in Batumi for about 6 months and I can only assure you, the cityscape has changed dramatically, not very well known areas of the city now have become very hot investment areas.…

Diaries from Tbilisi - Bitcoin's Correlation to S&P 500, Teacher's Parent meeting at QSI

| Living in Georgia | 6 seen

Good evening from Tbilisi!

The day started with a few short positions on Bitcoin, while I was waiting for the stock futures updates from CNBC, visited my hairdresser Katya, got my hair trimmed and straightened. Love it.

The futures market opened and showed kind of a green day ahead, my short positions on Bitcoin got challenged, but I decided to keep them open and see what happens next.

We went to the newly opened Domino DIY shopping mall in the Dighomi area and bought some goodies and tools for Sandra's urban garden in Vake. At 16:00 we had agreed on a teacher-parent meeting at QSI.

Had a lovely conversation with Ms. Nino, and discussed our 3-year olds achievements at school. All is good. Progressing by days.

The stock market opened and Bitcoin gained another 500 points, I kept adding more short positions, but at one moment accidentally placed a buy, instead of a short, took a small loss.

Not sure if sustainable, but for now Bitcoin correlates with SP 500.

Now packing our luggage for tomorrow's train trip to Batumi.
